How We Write the Journal

Every Journal article is written to help you grow cacti well, with Trichocereus at the center. This page explains how the articles are made, so you know what you can rely on.

Research comes first

Each article starts with research, before any of it is written. We work from university and cooperative extension guides, government agencies, botanic gardens and peer-reviewed studies, and we check every plant name against Kew's Plants of the World Online. We use AI tools to help gather and organize that research and to draft, and nothing is published until it has been checked.

Every claim is checked

Before an article comes to us for review, every factual claim in it is checked against its source, as a separate step from the writing. A claim the source does not support is rewritten or cut. The check also covers the parts of a page that appear in search results, such as the title and description. Each article is then read the way a first-time grower would read it, to catch anything unclear.

Growers' experience, labeled as such

Some useful knowledge has never been tested in a study, and for San Pedro and its relatives the research is thin. When advice comes from growers' experience rather than research, the article says so.

Reviewed and approved by us

Every article is reviewed and approved at Thoughtful Pricks before it is published. Where our nursery has a standard of its own, such as when to first water a new cutting, the article follows it. For how we set hardiness and other care numbers on our product pages, see How We Set Our Care Facts. To learn more about the nursery, see About.

Kept current

We update an article when the facts or our practice change, and its date changes only when the content does. If you think we've gotten something wrong, email support@thoughtfulpricks.com and we'll look into it.
