Grown for the plant
We grow in the open, under full California sun, whenever a plant is better for it. Sun-grown cactus develop denser growth, thicker skin, stronger spines, and deeper color, and they arrive already acclimated to the conditions they'll meet in your garden. Growers call it hard-grown, and it shows. Other species want gentler conditions, so we raise those under shade cloth or in green houses.
How we farm
We farm conscientiously, and for us that means something specific. We grow in soil we're building rather than mining. We compost, we plant cover crops, and we let the land keep more than we take from it. Cactus and succulents are patient plants, and patience turns out to be the whole philosophy. Healthy soil, unhurried growth, and plants with real roots and real character instead of tender things forced out the door.
What we grow
We specialize in fine botanicals for the water-wise garden: Trichocereus and other columnar cactus, barrel cactus, agave and aloe, jade and hardy succulents, and plumeria. Everything is sold as an ornamental, chosen because it's beautiful, architectural, and built to thrive on very little water.

How your plants travel
When your plant comes to you, it ships bare-root, with no soil. It sounds unusual the first time, but it's gentler on the plant, and it's how the healthiest cactus arrive. We pack by hand and hold shipments during extreme heat or cold to protect what's inside. When cold weather could reach your plant in transit, we include a heat pack at no charge, and if conditions are colder than a heat pack can handle we hold your order and email you rather than risk it.
